DESCRIPTION: “Blarney Castle, Co. Cork: This great castle, standing five miles from Cork City in the Blarney Estate, was built in 1446 by Cormac Laidir MacCarthy.  It is famous the world over for its Blarney Stone which has the traditional virtue of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it.  The famous stone was positioned in the wall below a parapet walk on the battlements and to kiss it, it is necessary to lean backwards, holding on to an iron railing.  The word “Blarney” is now part of the English language and means pleasant talk, intending to deceive without offending.”
