    Description

This is the scanning unit from a vintage Conn 12 wheel strobe tuner. To be complete it needs to hook up to a compatable tuning unit which I dont have. My plan was to make one but lets all not hold our breath on that. As the video shows I think this unit all works fine. The motor and gearbox function normally when run in the warm up mode. They stop when switched to "run" but that is because they are expecting to be powered by the tuning unit. The microphone input, gain control , and strobe tube and associated driver circuit seem to work properly in the run mode but the wheels dont spin in this mode as previously described. Comes with the cable to connect to the tuning unit and an ac power cord that I made myself by trimming a cord to fit. Note that I THINK the scanner to tuning unit cable is different that that used in the later model of these. I believe it could be easily adapted though because the function is the same ( the scanner supplies wall current to the tuning unit and the tuning unit supplies motor drive to the scanner. I showed pics with the cover off and on, also with the suitcase lid cliped on. Weighs about 45 pounds. If you want to make a tuning unit, it has to supply 110vac to the scanner ( at variable frequency if you want to change from A440). The original tuning unit had a big electrically driven tuning fork which had adjustable weights to change the frequency. It is a marvel of engineering but was a requirement back then cause they didnt have good stable electronic oscillators. Dont buy this if you have no technical knowledge ( unless you just think it is beautiful like I do). I will take it back if you are unhappy but remember you will pay return shipping for all 45 pounts of it. THANKS FOR WATCHING !!!
