Description
Continental-sized (approx. 4x6) chrome postcard showingBell Rock above the Vale of Avoca, with the stacks of the area's historic copper mines
in the background.
Front caption reads, "Bell Rock, Vale of Avoca, Co. Wicklow, Ireland."
Back caption reads,
"VALE OF AVOCA. 'There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet,
As that vale in whose bosom the bright waters meet.'
So sung Thomas Moore of Avoca, in one of his best known songs.
The tree beneath which he rested still stands at the water's edge,
where the Avonmore and Avonbeg form the Avoca river in a setting
of sylvan beauty. The goldsmiths of ancient Ireland obtained much of
their precious metal in this region, and mining is carried on today for
more pedestrian ores."
