Description
Vintage Continental-sized (approx. 4x6), deckled-edge color postcard with a view of the ruins ofDesmond Castle, on the River Maigue (and the grounds of Adare Manor) at Adare, County Limerick, Ireland.

"Desmond Castle, Adare" and "Limerick, Ireland".
Back caption reads,
"DESMOND CASTLE, ADARE, CO. LIMERICK: This
strongly fortified castle built in the early 13th century on the site
of an ancient ring fort. The castle past [sic] to the Fitzgeralds in 1227
and was partially rebuilt by them in the 14th century. Cromwell ordered
its dismantling in 1657 but the estates remained in the hands of the Fitzgeralds
until 1721 when they were bought by the ancestors of the Earl of Dunraven."
