Back caption reads,
"BANTRY BAY, CO. CORK: Bantry is a thriving market town near
the head of magnificent and historic Bantry Bay. Formerly a station of the
British Atlantic Fleet, Bantry Bay was twice entered by French Fleets: in 1689
to aid James II, and in December 1796, accompanied by Wolfe Tone, to
aid the Republican insurrection. South-west of the town, in a beautifully sited demesne,
is Bantry House, a great Georgian mansion built for Richard White, First Earl of Bantry.
Whiddy Island, 1 3/4 miles out in Bantry Bay, is the location of a great oil transhipment
terminal for Gulf Oil. The first of its kind in Europe. It is fed by giant 300,000 ton tankers."
