Description
Vintage Continental-sized (approx. 4x6) postcard with four views of Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, including the church, catacombs, stocks, and a mummified cat and rat.
Front caption reads, "Christ Church Cathedral - Dublin - Ireland."
Back caption reads, "CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL, DUBLIN: Founded in 1038 by the Norse king
Sitric 'Silkenbeard', it was rebuilt in stone by the Norman 'Strongbow' for St. Laurence O'Toole.
The well-preserved 12th century crypt is part of the original Norman construction. The ancient
stocks of the old 'Liberty' of the Cathedral were made in 1670 and stood in Christ Church Yard
until 1821. The mummified bodies of a cat and rat found some 150 years ago demonstrate the
preservative quality of the air here."
