Vintage Contintental-sized (approx. 4x6") postcard with a view of the ruins of
Mellifont Abbey in County Louth, Ireland, midway between Belfast and Dublin.

Front caption reads, "Mellifont Abbey, Co. Louth, Ireland."
Back caption reads,
"MELLIFONT ABBEY, CO. LOUTH: These ruins of the first Cistercian
House in Ireland are situated beside the Mattock River, a tributary of the Boyne,
6 miles west of Drogheda. The Abbey was built in 1142, consecrated in 1157 and was a
seat of religious learning until suppressed in 1539. The remains of the Gate House form a
huge square tower rising to about 50 feet. There are only the outlines of cloisters
but other considerable portions of the old Abbey still stand."
