Description

Vintage Continental-sized (approx. 4x6) postcard showing Gougane Barra, the isolated
lake in West Cork, Ireland, that was home to the church of St. Finbarr (also spelled Fin Barre).
Front caption reads, "Gougane Barra, West Cork, Ireland."
Back caption reads, "GOUGANE BARRA: This lake, the source of the River Lee,
is set amid magnificent mountain scenery with brooding cliffs rising above the dark
waters. In the lake is a tiny island connected to the mainland by an artificial causeway.
This island was the site of the hermitage of St. Finbarr, patron saint of Cork.
Nothing now remains of this early building, but there is an extensive building of later date
containing a square court with cells."
