Vintage Continental-sized (approx. 4x6) postcard with a view of the hospitableMount Melleray Abbey / monastery in County Waterford, Ireland.

Back caption reads,
"MOUNT MELLERAY ABBEY, CO. WATERFORD: On the southern
slopes of the Knockmealdown Mountains is Mount Melleray Abbey of
the Trappist (Cistercian) Order. The Abbey was founded in 1832 by monks
from Brittany who, in 1822 were banished by a decree of the French Government.
Coming to Ireland, the monks obtained a lease of a barren stretch of mountainside,
which they converted by their Industry into a splendid tract of over 800 acres,
with as its centre, a group of fine buildings including the Abbey church."
