Description
Vintage Continental-sized (approx. 4x6") chrome postcard with a view of the Dublin Spire,a landmark art installation in front of the GPO in central Dublin, Ireland, at the site of the former
Pillar, destroyed for political reasons by the IRA.
The "needle" or "spike" is meant to represent a rising Dublin.

Front caption reads, "THE SPIRE OF DUBLIN".
Back caption reads,
"O'CONNELL STREET is Dublin's main thoroughfare. One of Europe's widest
streets it was known as Sackville Street until the early twentieth century, when Dublin
Corporation renamed it in honour of Daniel O'Connell, a nationalist leader in the early
nineteenth century. The Spire of Dublin was the winning entry in an architectural competition
to provide a replacement for Nelson's Pillar. It was erected between December 2002 and January 2003
to great public excitement and signals the regeneration of the street."
