Description
Vintage Contintental-sized (approx. 4x6) postcard with a view of the greenvale of two lakes, Glendalough, in County Wicklow, Ireland.
Front caption reads, "The Vale of Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, Ireland".
Back caption reads,
"GLENDALOUGH, CO. WICKLOW: Glendalough, the Glen of the Two Lakes,
was chosen by Saint Kevin in the sixth century as the home for the monastic
life of himself and his followers. From one small cell built at the western end
of the valley, a great monastic city grew up, and the ancient remains visible today are all
that exist to tell its story. The Ancient Gateway to the city, the Round Tower, the Cathedral
of SS. Peter and Paul, Saint Kevin's Cross --one of the oldest crosses erected in Ireland--
and Saint Kevin's Kitchen erected in 533 are but a few of the historic remains."
